I recently bought a 120gb hdd for my computer and when I
tried to fdisk it I formatted my 60gb hdd with 7000 mp3s.
Can you please tell me how to fix my problem?

thanks kev.

You cannot fix it if you have used fdisk on it. You have just learned a
couple of valuable lessons. Let's review:

1. When using powerful commands like fdisk, format, delete etc, be sure of
each decision you make.

2. Never ever do any of the above mentioned commands on a system that you
have not backed up your valuable data on.

You have just permanently lost 7000 mp3s.

My bet is that you won't do it again.

Reload your 7000 MP3s if you have a backup. Once you reformat a
drive, it is wiped clean of all files.

Kev;
Unless you have back-ups, the fix may be expensive.

In the future when perform operations such as this it is a good idea
to physically disconnect the IDE cable from the drive.
Then no mistake can destroy the data.

See if one or more of these will help:
It is important not to do anything with the computer until a decision
is made.
Every boot and even every keystroke potentially permanently destroys
the data.

Some 3rd party tools such as Norton System Works have utilities like
"Norton Protected Recycle Bin"
Check you documentation if you think you may have this capability.

It seems to me that software like Easy Recovery
do retrieve files deleted by formatting.

Did you just run FDISK and delete the partition?

If that is all that you did then you can probably recover the
partition by using MBRWORK from the free utilities section of
http://www.bootitng.com
See http://members.shaw.ca/LeesPlace/mbrwork.htm for some
instructions.

If you used FDISK to delete and then create a new partition then you
will have to run a format recovery program and hope that it can find
your files. See http://www.download.com for some possible programs.

Good luck
