New CPU XP Fails to Boot

Thanks for the respones. Here is some information
relevent to the responses so far.

1. I Upgraded the BIOS on the Mainboard last week to
ensure that the new processor would be supported.

2. The CPU is to the best of my knowledge not overclocked.

3. It would appear that there is at least some activity
within the machine as the CD Rom setup runs and loads all
the drivers , it is right at the point that setup issues
the message that it is starting windows that the lockup
appears to occurm i've left it sitting at this stage for
15 minutes before giving up.

When I get home from work today my next step :) is to
disconnect the primary hard drive from the System to see
if for some reason setup is still using code from the
hard drive.

Any extra comments hints welcomed.

I had a similar experience. Try going into your BIOS and reset it to
it's defaults. My ASUS board and AMD XP2000 will not boot XP when I
have the Optimal settings selected.
