Just what the subject states, harddrive not detected will
not boot up. Running xp home on intel board and
processor, entered set-up and confirmed hard drive not
detected by computer. Tried to reset the default
settings with no change in system. Other than hard
drive not being connected to the board what can I do.

Thanks

Hi Bob

Well you could start by giving us a bit more info on your hardware.... Which
Intel board, hard drive type and connection... that sort of thing....
Whether you are attempting a new install, a repair install, or if there was
a sudden failure... What, if any hardware changes have occurred recently...
etc... etc.... err on the side of maximum rather than minimum detail..

For the benefit of the NewsGroup Bob replied

------ "Hello Pete,

The board is D845gbv, the processor is p4 2.53. The harddrive is either a
western digital or seagate ata 7200rpm. It was a sudden failure in that
they shut it down normally the day before went to restart it today and got
the error message boot device not detected. Not sure of exact message not
my computer and two hours away (sister-in-law). Asked if anything was done
such kicking it or anything while it was in use that might cause a crash,
kids say no. I hope this is enough info, thanks again.

Bob

Please post to the Newsgroup. Others may find the information useful and
you are more likely to get a solution if more people can follow the posts
and contribute.

That said, check the connecting ribbon cable, by swapping it out and using a
different one. Check the drive still functions... swap it into a different
system... if it operates then run a disk diagnostic on it... if it can't be
seen in a different system... well it should be obvious.

Hope that helps
Pete
