I seem to be having some similar problems as others on
this site and more. I recently upgraded from WIN98 to
XP. Everything seems to be working fine except for my USB
and Plug N' Play hardware. I've encountered the same
problem as Frankie Deschacht where my system reboots but
most often, my computer simply won't recognize any plug
and play devices. I've used the software setup disk that
came with my canon i320 printer and even the setup
software won't recognize the printer when it's connected
through the USB port. (I can't even find my USB port in
device manager)
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
P.J.

One consistent source of USB problems in XP is that Plug and Play is,
well, sort of Plug and Death Spiral if drivers are installed
incorrectly. The fundamental rule is if there is no native driver for
the device, then do not plug the device unless and until XP-compatible
drivers have been installed first. To do otherwise is to invite the
monster that lurkes in the flawed XP hardware detection model to assign
the device to whatever makes the computer operate the worst and is most
difficult to correct.

Check out Cari's site: http://www.coribright.com/Windows/ for complete
instructions on how to remove and reinstall a printer in XP.
