PM5 & PM6 will only work with FAT32, not NTFS. PM7 & PM8 will work with
either. I've just done this with PM8 and it went very smoothly.

I have used PM8 to create, delete, resize and format many partitions and
have yet to have a problem with XP and NTFS.

I have used both with XP Pro and have problems with version 7.0. 8.0 is the
better of the two, especially if you are going to break out the piggy bank
for it.

upgrade you partition magic. I think it up to version 9 now. Not even sure
6 will work with xp.

Version 7 is problematic, version works just fine, that's
what I have. Version 8 was on sale, so 9 may be out. Nope,
the website still touts version 8.

Even though I now have V8, I've often used all functions of V7 on XP Pro
without any trouble.

Been using 7.01 for a year without any problems. 2 hard drives; 4
partitions on one, 2 on the other. One a Maxtor, the other a
Western Digital. Again, no problems what-so-ever.

PM 6 does *not* work with the XP version of NTFS. You need at least
version 7.01 - preferably version 8, or a Competing product

Not in a big way though. When faced with the same problem I found you could
buy new copies of 7.0 on EBay for about $5 once 8.0 came out. I just
installed 7.0 and then went to the PowerQuest web site to install whatever
updates were there and all worked well.

I don't recall where I got it, but I think I searched on Google
and found a site from which I downloaded full, brand new
PM 8.0 .... Give it a try.

If you did that, it's pirated software. PartitionMagic is not
legally available for free.
