Deleting files

I am having trouble deleting a gif. file from a folder
when I right click it does not give me the option to
delete. And I cant drag it to the recycle bin . Any
suggestions?

Are you logged in with an account that has Administrative priveledges? To
check, go to your Control Panel and open up User Accounts (or something
similarly worded). Then you should see your account name, and it shoud say
Computer Administrator underneath it. If it does not, then you may be
using an account that has restricted rights to the system, which may be
preventing you from deleteing that file.

Next, open a command prompt window by clicking START, then RUN, then type
in CMD and hit [ENTER]. Within the command window, change directory to the
folder in question - if the file is within the "My Pictures" system folder
on the C: drive, type the following commands into the window, hitting
[ENTER] after each line:

CD "%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures"
DEL file.gif

If you are still unable to delete the file from the command prompt, then
you most likely do not have permission to delete files. If you are able to
delete the file just fine, then either there is a problem with Explorer or
your install of XP, or something else which we'd have to investigate
further.
