Just upgraded from 98 to XP Home, getting message
HPOSTART.EXE failed to initialize when start or restart.
(Oxc0000142). Compaq Presario 5630, 400mhz, 128 MB Ram,
12GB HD.

The hpostart.exe file belongs to software that supports an HP printer.
Disable the program to see if you can start normally. Visit HP's tech
support area to see if the program just needs to be reinstalled or if it
needs to be replaced with a version appropriate for use with XP.
