We would need some more information to come up with an effective solution.
Such information would be when you last updated the drivers, what type of
mouse is it, have you tried it on one of the other computers, does this
happen at regular time intervals ???

The problem could be hardware, virus, drivers or even the port.

now a day later the mouse works fine. I tried another mouse when it was
frozen to no avail. I recently added a second hard drive. Could that be the
culprit? I have loaded in the computer Norton antivirus.

I'm having a similar problem myself and wondered if anyone might have an
idea what the problem could be (i'll try to keep it short)

Basically my mouse freezes at random intervals. It's a usb Intellimouse
optical. The PC is fine and the keyboard works fine. To get the mouse
pointer back I have to unplug it and plug it back in again. Sometimes it
will freeze again in 5 seconds....Sometimes it will be fine for half an
hour.

I've tried several usb ports
virus checked the pc
Reinstalled the whole OS (WinXP Pro) With only bare essentials.

No extra software has been added...Though I have recently installed a new
graphic card - 3D Blaster GeForce ti4800 - It is using IRQ 16 which is what
one of my usb controllers use....But creative don't seem to think that this
is a problem.

One thing I have yet to do is try another mouse.....Not easy when you don't
know anyone who has a PC (really, I don't :) I'll be buying the Logitech
MX700 today) Fingers crossed.

If you've had the time to read this far...I'd really apreciate any
suggestions you might have

Thanks
Regards
Jon

I had the same mouse and problem. It went away when I removed the mouse cord
extension (the mouse is too far from the box. I had to rearrange my USB hub so
that it would reach).
