Today received "update ready to download" message and
clicked on the icon and installed. On re-booting received
message "Windows could not start because the following
file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32
\config\system. 5 hours later after much trying,
installed XP Pro to a different hard drive and was
installing updates and service packs. When got to latest
update, this error re-occurred.

I can't figure out how to get thru all the crap to let
someone at MS know about this problem. I reinstalled
WINXP today, and now I'm going to have to install again
and am expecting re-regristration hassle. Good Grief!!!

Hi Ken,

There were several updates released recently, which one was it? I've not =
heard of any of them causing a corrupted user profile.
