Hey,
I'm going on a trip and I need to bring my laptop. I know
that laptops can go thru x-ray machines (right?), but can
CDs, Digital Cameras, and CF Cards go thru harmlessly as
well?

The devices you mentioned should be hand checked only. Don't allow
them to be X-rayed. The security personnel will assist you.

Also make sure your laptop battery is fully charged before you go. If you
cannot turn on your laptop due to a dead battery they will pass it through
the machine.
One of our field guy's had this happen to him. He took it out of the case
but the battery was dead. So they made him pass it through the X-Ray
Machine. He lucked out as it did not effect the HDD. We had one that was
wiped out though. So make sure it is charged before you go.

X-rays don't affect hard drives, at least not at any level you're going to
find in these devices.

There isn't enough of a magnetic field in there to bother with either.
Send a compass through.. Still points north.

My laptop gets X-rayed routinely.
