View Full Version : 'New Hardware Wizard'

I posted this at another group, but I think it's better
here. I have a new HP Pavillion PC, with XP Pro. I have
successfully installed my Laserjet 3150 and it is working
just fine. Problem is, everytime I turn the computer on, I
get the "New Hardware Found" and it takes me to the
wizard. Apparently, it sees the 3150 as a 'new' piece of
hardware. I walked through the Wizard, putting in the CD
and pointing it to where the printer driver is. Since it's
not 'Microsoft Certified' it will not take it. There is no
updated driver from HP. How do I turn this 'certification'
thing off? I'm sure there is a way. It was pretty easy in
Windows 2000 to turn it off. It would be great if I could
disable the 'New Hardware Found' too and manually install
new hardware when I get it.

Any help will be appreciated.

System Properties, Hardware tab, Driver Signing button. Checking "Warn"
permits the machine to install an unsigned driver, if you click to install
it even though it isn't signed. (I use unsigned rivers all the time,
downloaded from manufacturer's web sites. I'd often rather have the latest
drivers, rather than wait for WHQL certification.)

With any luck, once you allow the process to finish, you won't get the
hardware wizard again.

HTH.
