My system currently has 2 sound cards installed and I find
the need to add a 3rd. Does anyone know how many sound
cards WinXP professional supports?

Thanks

Hello Jim

I did see an article on having 2 sounds cards but not 3 and
also you could end with conflicts, 3 soundcards in one pc (why)
..

1st Card drives HomeAutomation Speach recognition.
2nd Card drives a Digital Music Player.
3rd Card would be driving audio for Windows Media Encoder 9

If 3 cards are not possible I guess I could try to hook
the Media encoder to line-in on the 2nd card, but can a
sound card play and record simultainiously???

Only if it is capable of Full Duplex mode.
In Full Duplex mode it can send and receive data simultaneously. That's the
theory anyway.LOL
One way to find out is to try it out. As long as your system is up to par
is should not be a problem.

Just finished a chat with MS. They say no limit to sound
cards. You can install as many as you have slots. So the
last slot gets another sound card I guess.

Thanks
