problems with opening my cd rom

Hey, I'm having trouble opening my cd rom drive. It was
working fine for a while, but suddenly it stopped
opening. I've tried restarting my computer, but it still
won't open. I was wondering if anyone knows how to solve
this problem? Please reply, thanks.

The tray on a CD Rom device works on a little tiny plastic cog. Over time,
the plastic teeth of this cog wear out. Then the tray won't open. There
should be a tiny little hole on the faceplate into which you can insert a
straightened out paperclip (or similar). This will spring the release
mechanism so you can retrieve any CD that may be stuck inside.

It is not economically viable to replace the cog.... purchase another CD
drive.
