CD-R/RW Drive Opening

My Philips CDD4851 CD-R/RW drive has started opening and
closing automatically over and over and over. It's empty.
I rarely use the drive.
I have reinstalled the driver, installed all Windows XP
updates I could find, disabled it in the device driver,
disabled it in boot up, disabled autoplay for the drive
in Windows Media. I have no idea why it keeps doing this.
Is there a patch for this specific problem? Any ideas?
This is driving me insane. It's possessed! HELP!

It really sounds mechanical -- as though the eject button on the drive has
gone bad and something is shorting its contacts. It sounds like a few
short blasts of compressed air aimed at that button might help, but you'd
have to get inside the drive to do that.
