I had a smiliar problem when i put my first xp machine
together, turned out it was the video card stalling and
freezing the display. it was stopping due to overheating
which turned out to be a defect on the card which was
replaced under warrranty. Check the gfx card is seated
properly into the slot and you have the latest drivers.
Uninstall already used drivers before putting the new ones
in as simply overwriting with new ones can sometimes cause
problems. If you have a good game or graphic intensive app
you might try running that and seeing if it freezes more
often as the gfx card gets used a lot more.
