Hi, I have upgraded the OS on an HP 8660c from Win98 to XP-
Home and I cannot get the DVD player to recognize DVDs. It
will read CD's but not DVDs, Windows media player would
error out (Not Responding). The model name is Mat****a DVD-
Rom SR-8585. I am using the default driver cdrom.sys.

Can anyone offer a solution how to fix this problem.

Thanks for your reply.

You will probably need piece of software called a DeCoder. WinDVD or
PowerDVD are just two of the better ones.
I saw PowerDVD for $9.99US just yesterday on the internet.
I use WinDVD as it came with my G4 Video card and I didn't have to shell out
any money. Until I got this, I too had lost the use of my DVD when I
upgraded to XP.
Just to ease your mind it is not a problem with your DVD but just the
DeCoder it use to use. You need an XP compatible DeCoder.
