Hello. Does anyone know how to turn of Messenger Service Popups? Every now
and then, I would get a popup dialog names Messenger Service, which contains
text information about miscellaneous advertisements. Please do not mistake
this Messenger Service for MSN Instant Messenger. If you've experienced this
annoying Messenger Service Popups, you would know what I mean. Thanks.

You don't turn them off. Turning them off is like applying concealer over a
spot. It may mask the problem, but the problem still exists. Whilst turning
off the messenger service will stop the intrusion it does nothing to cure
the problem. You need to purchase, install and configure a decent firewall
and set it to block ports 137-139. By disabling the service you are still
leaving yourself open to attack as the ports are still vulnerable.

Why buy a firewall, when XP has one built in that will stop incoming
traffic?

Open Help and Support and search for "firewall". This will tell you how to
enable XP's built in firewall. If you have a valid reason not to use a
firewall, click Start, Run and enter SERVICES.MSC Locate the Messenger
entry and double click it. Set it to Stopped and Disabled.
However, the reason they can get to the Messenger Service (not to be
confused with Windows Messenger) in the first place, is that your internet
connection is not secure.
