Hi

I have a strange problem with my Windows XP - (SP1 installed). Last two days
the computer is automatically being restartet after 5 or 10 minutes of
working, like some kind of a crash, but with no warnings.. just quick
restart ??
I thought that a virus could be the problem, but Sophos and Norton Anti
Virus didn't find any? What else could be the problem ?? I have a Compaq
deskpro with Pentium III procesor.

Thanks for all help in advance !

Regards
Miha

Hi, Miha.

Have you changed the default setting for "what to do on system failure"?
The default is to "automatically restart". You can change this by removing
the check from the box on System Properties | Advanced | Startup and
Recovery Settings.

Next time, instead of rebooting, your computer should halt with a BSOD full
of codes that might point to a cause of the problem. You'll still have to
reboot - by pressing Reset - but you'll have time to write down those codes.
Post them here and some guru should be able to interpret them for you.

Hi

I followed your advice and removed tick from "always restart" (in startup
and recovery). Strange is, that computer is still crashing without any
warnings ?? In the Event viewer I got the following error (I'm quite sure
that this must be the problem, but I don't know what to do ):

"AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address
(0xcfc), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff protected address range.
This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for
technical assistance"

There were no new hardware or any other devices, also no new software
installed.

Any ideas ??

Again thanks for your help
Regards
Miha
