Unknown Hardweare Error

I have have i new harddrive, A Maxtor 120 GB. And when i
try to install Windows XP it crashes when the
installation program gets to the point thats adding
devices.
Then i get an error message.
STOP: C000021a Unknown Hard Error

Coud it be the hard drive.?
