outlook express & spell checker

I never used a newsgroup, but maybe you can point me in
the right direction. I have recently ugraded (purchased
a new PC) from WIN2K Pro to Windows XP Home Edition. The
spell check within Outlook Express doesn't work. The
error message "an error occurred while the spelling was
being checked". I have installed Microsoft Office 97,
which includes Word 97. Is this compatible with XP? If
not, what speller works with XP?
