I just recenlty installed winxp on my computer and
updated win me. Now everything is slow! I can barley get
on the internet. Why is this happening. I was told that
win xp was better. I have plenty of memory on my computer
too. I even tried uninstalling it last night and re-
installing and it didn't help at all.

Greetings --

Did you, before proceeding, take a few minutes to ensure that
there are WinXP device drivers available for all of the machine's
components? There may not be, if the PC was specifically designed for
Win98/Me. Also bear in mind that PCs designed for and sold with
Win9x/Me very often do not meet WinXP's much more stringent hardware
quality requirements. Have you made sure that your Dell PC's hardware
components are capable of supporting WinXP? This information will be
found at the PC's manufacturer's web site, and on Microsoft's Hardware
Compatibility List: (http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/default.asp)

What are you computers specs? Did you check to see that all
the hardware and firmware are XP compatible?

I am the Technical Specialist for A small school system.
We are in the middle of upgrading hundreds of PC's to XP
from 98 and ME.
I'm still not sure what the specs were on the machine
that you upgraded are, however we found that it was
imparitive to download the latest firmware (flash bios
upgrade) before we started any upgrade project. Also, it
didn't hurt to do some homework first. Burn a CD of all
the appropriate XP Pro, Home, or Corp Drivers for the
Dell PC from www.dell.com at the support site. It is
free so take advantage of it.
You can do this after the installation but now you have
the problem of a slow Modem. I suspect the Device
manager has the wrong drivers for your modem. This can
be allieviated by searching the correct modem drivers on
the Dell.Com web site and installing them. After a
restart check your device manager make sure the device
manager does not have two modem entries. If device
manager does, remove the incorrect entry. Restart.
If the correct driver was installed for your PC and modem
you should be able to see a remarkable difference.
I'll help any way I can
Russ

Are you responding to the right post? The OP never mentioned Dell...
