modem Com 3 connection

Cannot send or receive E-mail. When troubleshooting,
modem found to be connected to Com-3 port, but when
checking Device Manager for hardware, expanding Ports
shows only the LPT-1 port listed for the printer. Should
the Com-3 port not also be listed, and if so, please
explain how to do that. My machine is a Toshiba notebook
Home Edition running Windows XP.

Only the physical com ports are listed under the device manager, so you
shouldn't see it there. Your problem is elsewhere.
