Try to reformat the CD-RW disk. The file system may be screwed up.

Has this disk been previously quick erased successfully? If Nero doesn't
work with it you might be successful in erasing the disk with another CD
Burning software program like Superblank (freeware)
http://www.arrowkey.com/pub/SuperBlank301.zip but I'd still be suspicious of
a CD-R/W that gives you grief.

Does the error always happen? Is it only with one specific CD-R/W disk? How
old is the CD-R/W (how often has it been previously erased). Was it
formatted with InCD prior to the attempt to erase it now? Can you do a Full
erase of the disk?

A quick erase only removes the TOC (table of contents) and if this is done
many times it is possible the disk has simply "worn out". Or you could have
poor medium or a scratched disk in either case it is time to toss the
CD-R/W.

BTW are you using the latest version of Nero? You may need to upgrade as
some earlier versions of Nero 5.5 were a bit buggy on XP. www.nero.com will
get you an update.

Discovered it's only with a few older Memorex discs, seems they don't age
well.

There were a lot of problems with Memorex CD-R/W a few years ago. Just do a
search of some the CD burning newsgroups. Personally I haven't had problems
with them recently though.
