View Full Version : my PC freezes

Tom

OS: WinXP Pro
Intel Celeron 700GHz
RAM: 128MB
HDD: Samsung 80GB
My PC freezes frequently, there's no pattern, mostly when
I try to open a program or start menu. I'm not sure if it
started happening after it's video card gone bad. I
replaced it with an old video card, not sure if that one
is causing the problem. I used to have 10GB hard drive in
it and replaced it with the Samsung 80GB, if that fixes
the problem. It didn't help. Any ideas?

Not much to go on, especially if the problem is random and cannot be
recreated with a known set of steps.

Start your troubleshooting by taking a look at the event viewer. Go to
Start/Run and type eventvwr.msc and press OK. In the Event Viewer, click
the three modules in the left side menu and look for any "X" error messages
that coincide with the time this problem last occured. If one is found,
double click the error to see the details. You can click the Copy icon on
the right side of the details dialog box and post the complete error details
back here.

You might want to make sure that the old video card is using up to date, XP
compatible drivers.

You need more RAM.. 128mb is just not enough.. look to increasing to at
least 512mb..
