upgrading hard drive

I have purchased an larger hard drive. What's the best way to move my
operating system and programs/data to the new hard drive?

Hello

You have 2 choices
1. Use Norton's Ghost 2003 from www.symantec.com (you have to buy it)

2. Do a clean install, Meaning
3. INstall the new drive, Install your OS and drivers and make sure all is
working
4. Then you can setup your drive as a slave and copy your data over
5. If you choose that process you would have to re-install your programs

Depending on whose drive you bought, it may very simple. Both WD and Maxtor
offer software with the drives they sell (if you bought the cheap version,
without a box, you'll have to download the software from thier website.)
This software will partition, format, and even do a complete copy for you.
Backup any critcal files first though - I'm not sure in XP because I haven't
done it, but in Win2k there is sometimes a problem because the drive copy
process doesn't catch the swap file - then it won't boot. If this happens,
you can still go back to your original drive and go with one of the other
options, or you can get creative (i.e. move your swap to a second hard drive
before doing the copy.)
