My C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\OWMngr.exe is infected with a
trojan virus. My Norton has it quarinteened but it
recommends to delete and reinstall. Does anyone know which
file I need to look for on my original discs to reinstall
it?

Hi, Debra.

See my response to your OTHER post.

And, please, give us some time. Your second post was less than a half-hour
after this one. This is NOT Microsoft tech support. This is a peer-to-peer
newsgroup. We are all just users like you. We love to help, but we're not
on the payroll - and we may be busy helping someone else. ;^}

I don't understand why Norton does tell you whether or not the file in
question is an infected system file or the trojan file itself. You'll
have to search on the Norton site for owmngr.exe and read about it. My
guess is that the file is the trojan itself and does not need to be
replaced. If you allow Norton to quarantine it for a few days and you
don't get any errors, then you can safely assume it doesn't need to be
replaced.

What you have is a downloader trojan called Checkin-B.

A standard Firewall would prevent it from contacting websites and
downloading info.

You DO NOT want to reinstall OWMngr.exe, delete it. Check your registry
for any referrences as well as MSConfig startup and active processes.

If you would have had SOPHOS AV over Norton, you wouldn't have this file to
begin with.... But thats another story and discussion for another time.

Since I have never had a virus I can't really say but the
only thing I can say is Download a Trogen Remover. I use
one and never had any problems. The one I have scans your
system as soon as it boots up, Scan takes about 20
seconds.

Go to this site and download the Program, install it and
let this deal with it. If that fails you might have to
either download another one or do a complete repartion and
installation of windows. PAin I know but it may be
theonly thing you can do.
