I have recently purchased a new notebook computer with the
English version of Windows XP, and need to install the
Japanese version of Windows XP. How can I reconfigure the
primary partition on the hard drive to create a new
bootable drive? I can't manage the one partition on the
drive to reduce its size and therefore create another
drive. Help.

Hi David,

You need partitioning software to resize the existing drive and create =
free space for another partition. Be extremely careful not to upset any =
hidden partition that may exist on the system, these are often used by =
manufacturers to store the original system in the event of a need for =
recovery. The drive tools in Windows cannot do this.

Partitioning programs:

BootIT NG www.terabyteunlimited.com
Partition Magic www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic
Partition Commander http://www.v-com.com/product/pc_ind.html
Ranish Partition Manager http://www.ranish.com/part/

Greetings --

Short of deleting the current partition and creating two or more
partitions during the reinstallation of WinXP, you only option would
be to purchase and use a 3rd party partitioning utility, such as
Partition Magic www.powerquest.com, System Commander (which I've
successfully used in the past for multi-language multi-boot
configurations) www.v-com.com (watch the spelling here, or you'll get
a porn site), or BootItNG (which has a free, fully functional 30-day
evaluation version available for downloading) www.bootitng.com.
