Dear PC users,
My Dell PC came originally with a WinMe
OS.Eventually Dell sent me a Windows XP Update CD that
would actually update my OS to XP.I did that and I have
been using Windows XP since then. When running a Windows
XP Printer Test Page under the heading "Environment"
shows "Windows NT x86", never Windows XP. I ignored that
heading for a couple of years. Yesterday I ran "Regedit"
and I noticed that under HKey_Current_User, then clicked
on Software, then on Microsoft, a heading "Windows NT "
appears and going to Current Version it also shows a
whole series of settings. Should I remove that Windows NT
part of the Registry. Will it affect my PC at all? The
Windows XP CD I have is a DELL UPDATE to XP. In the past
I had some crashes and Re-installed XP quite easily. It
appears that my CD contains NT version. Thanks for any
help.

Leave it alone. XP is based on the NT kernel. What you're seeing is normal
and correct for XP.

No, do *not* remove that part of the registry. "XP" is just a
marketing name. What's you're actually running *is* Windows NT,
specifically Windows NT 5.1.
