internet access problems

Hi all,

Bought a new pc running XP home edition my first 1 running this version, I
have ADSL running through a router and gave the pc the standard ip subnet
and gateway etc as usual but it wont go out across the router only stay on
the internal network. If I set-up the pc for DHCP on the router it works
fine and have made sure the firewall is switch off, anyone know why this is
doing this.
