Hi all,
I downloaded some information online that is in
the .avi format. My Windows media player wasn't able to
open the information. Is there a way I can convert it
to .mpg format? I know it will play this type.
Thanks,
Kelly

CODECS!

An uncompressed AVI file will be approximately 12GB for every hour of
footage. Therefore not many folks will put them online for you to download!
Even if they did, you probably wouldn't want to download a file of that
size.

To keep it small, an AVI is usually compressed with a codec. Therefore to
open it, you need to have the correct codec installed on your PC.

You can analyze the file with G-Spot...http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

It will look at the file and tell you what codec you need in order to play
it. You cannot convert it to MPG format unless you have the correct codec
to decompress it!!!!! Let's do things in the right order!

And if you still want to convert it to MPG format, you'll need something
like TMPGEnc... http://www.pegasys-inc.com/
