Sounds like you have a good gateway.
There could be two reasons that I see.
1. Your gateway has the specific ip address you are
trying to set assigned to a specific mac address.
2. I have the same problem with my US Robotic access
point - - had to set for mac address recognition and add
another computer before it took the settings correctly.
