When I create a file folder, let's say - on my desktop -
the double click does NOT open the file - rather it
presents the search menu. Right clicking on that same
folder shows "SEARCH" as the top choice on the drop down
menu. The selection "OPEN" is in second position. I do
NOT want to search this way!

My question is: How can make "OPEN" the top item and
thereby be the default situation for double click mousing.

This is very frusrating as this PC sits alongside another
with XP Pro installed and everything is normal there.

Can anyone help?

Hi Stan,

This is a known issue, fortunately there is a fix from MVP Doug Knox, =
