Upgraded my W98 with XP Upgrade. Computer destroyed due
to a large power surge in area. Picked up a new computer
with W98 and am trying to Upgrade to XP but it does not
work. Need some help. Thanks-Jerry

Greetings --

And how, precisely, does the upgrade "not work?" Could we have a
hint? Or perhaps we need to buy a vowel?

Before proceeding, you should ensure that all the PC's components
are capable of supporting WinXP. This information will be found at
each of the PC's component's manufacturer's web sites, and on
Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility List:
(http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/default.asp). Computer components
designed for use with Win9x/Me very often fail to meet WinXP's much
more stringent hardware quality requirements. This is particularly
true of many models in Compaq's consumer-class Presario product line
or HP's consumer-class Pavilion product line.

Can you obtain WinXP-specific device drivers for your PC's
components, and any necessary motherboard BIOS updates? Additionally,
you can download and run Microsoft WinXP Upgrade Advisor to see if you
have any incompatible hardware components or applications:

It's very difficult for anyone help you with *any* problem if all
you tell us is "it does not work." Start by being much more
specific--exactly what did you do, and exactly what were the
results? If you get any error messages, please quote them
verbatim.

www.pcpitstop.com has an on-line check for XP compatibility.
It will check the computer hardware and software.
