Hi
I have just re-installed Windows XP and downloaded service Pack 1. As far as
I can tell, this should have enabled java and allow me to access chat forums
using java applets.
However it does not. The "Chat" button that allowss access to the chat
forums shows an "X" as when a picture cannot be displayed.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Damian

Hi Damian,
Microsoft no longer distributes the java machine with the SP due to =
legal complications.
For the Microsoft versions:
http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html
For the Sun version:
http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html

The latest release of SP1, which is SP1a, does not include any java
runtimes. For information on why it's not there see
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/evaluation/news/jre.asp.
Going forward, the only supported java distribution for Windows will be
from Sun and can be downloaded at http://java.sun.com/getjava/.

Thanks for the advice, however I still have problems.
The Sun site does not download - it tries but nothing comes down, even after
trying for several hours.
The microsoft version downloads, but after installation says it can only
upgrade installed versions and - of course - there is no installed version.
Any advice?
Damian

Hi,
Nope, just keep trying the Sun link. Clear TIF and temp folders as well =
before retrying.
