Hi

This new upgrade hit my PC yesterday and I had exactly the
same problems as the last time it came! but now I am even
worse off!

I allowed the upgrade to install (stupid, I know!) and
immediately my PC started to 'freeze' every 2-5 minutes.
Since last time I have however installed a small hoem
network so I didn't allow this upgrade onto my other pc.

I de-installed the upgrade (and the other upgrade that
apparently requires 811493) and then proceeded to run
Norton Win Doctor to ensure all was OK.

I have 2 hard drives on my PC; one where I maintain my
data and one that holds my programs. Norton got itself
into a serious loop and I had continuous read/write errors
onto my data drive. I hade to turn off my PC to stop win
doctor and then I now find XP can't 'see' my data hard
drive!

I am in a real stew at the moment and am not best pleased
with MICROSHAFT to say the least.

Can anyone help?

Gary

Gary, out of the millions of PC owners, there are very few problems like
yours.
What are your computer components, like CPU in MHz, hard disk size, ram
memory, etc.
Someone might have a fix for you.

Hi

Thanks Jerry, I am just feeling seriouly peeved at the
moment, having spent 6 hours yesterday trying to undo my
problem! I am at work at the moment but anticipate another
6 hours when i get home. The major problem for me is that
I keep all my records and run my business from home and
this could be catestrophic for me.

I have a 1.1 MHZ Athlon processor; 256 MB RAM; Hard Drive
1 is a Winchester 30 GB; hard drive 2 is a Winchester
60GB; XP Home edition upgraded to SP1; Epson Printer;
Epson scanner; Broadband Satellite system via GILAT star
software; XP Office pro.

can't think of anything else.

HELP!

Hi, Gary,

I can see why you are peeved,
The hotfix #811493 has been giving everyone a bad time up till now, and was
deleted. The new version has been fixed and has been running without
problems.
Are you using Norton's System Works version 2003, or an earlier version?
Are your Hard drives set up for NTFS or FAT32?

Sorry, I'm rambling, looking for problems,

Jerry

Not true! The hotfix has not been giving EVERYONE a bad time. Of the
millions of PC's, how many had/have problems and where do you get your data?

The problem is, you don't hear from the majority of people that aren't
having problems. You say 'everybody' is having a problem with it because
you see quite a few posts in regards to it. Well, I've installed it on over
1000 PC's within our company and have yet to have it cause any adverse
affects.

Where do you get your data?

Microsoft pulled the original 811493 and updated it. The original hot fix
slowed the system down on a majority of computers, ( the reason for the
renewal), so that's all I have to go on.
My personal computer speed dropped quite a bit, and after removing it, and
installing the updated fix, my computer speed jumped right back to original
settings.

I don't think it slowed down a majority of computers. I know it didn't slow
down either of my WinXP machines.

So if the original update was installed and *not* removed,
then Microsoft issued the "updated update" (the second version
of this update), when I run Windows Update will it: a) tell me
that I need to install the newer version of the update
or b) ignore the newer version of the update?

Remove the 1st one and download/install the latest hot fix #811493

It will tell you you need 811493. I.E. I did not uninstall 811493 and on May
29th when I clicked on 'microsoft update 811493 was there to download and
install.
