does anyone know how to enter safe mode on XP Professional?

Press F8 at startup and you'll get a whole list of options, including
SafeMode.

I tried this but my laptop kept getting a blue screen so I gave up didnt get
time to find out yet if anyone hs a sane explanation thanks

You need to press the button after POST and before Windows starts to
load. If you are getting a blue screen, you probably missed that window
of time that F8 works and should try again. I use the "beep" for the
floppy drive discovery as my cue to start tapping the F8 key.
*If* your system has a floppy drive, stick a blank floppy in. It will
stop in the boot process complaining about no operating system before
anything loads up. Remove the disk when prompted and instead of pressing
the "any key" - try F8.
