aha i see you have had the same problem as me here's what
you do:
go into device manager and disable the secondary ide then
reboot. now go back into device manager and enable it it
should now format worked for me.
i dont know what it is actually but i think for some
reason windows xp uses some files on the hard drive when
it boots up a bit stupid if you ask me it should only be
using files on the main drive but there we go another Mr
