i have installed a hard drive as a spare drive....it has
been formatted and partitioned....it was working perfectly
fine until about two weeks ago......it is recognizable
under the bios settings but windows does not recognize
it....please help

Have you checked out the status of the drive under Disk Management? This is the
first place I would check as it will probably answer the question for you once
you examine the status for the drive in question.

under disk management ...... the drive does not appear
there either.....it only shows up in the bios
settings......i'm thinking of doing a system
restore.....do u think that will help?

disk management doesn't recognize the drive either....it's
only recognizable under the bios settings

Do you have a utility like Partition Magic? Maybe it can lead you to some
answer. I know when I boot to the PM floppy, it shows me all the partitions and
shows me how much each partition is filled. It also tells me when there is a
problem with the MBR of the drive.
If this last item is corrupt, I don't think doing a system restore will bring it
back.
Is the disk reporting a yellow exclamation mark in the Device Manager?
