Monitor turning off on reboot

Hi al,
When I do a reboot (XP Home edition), my monitor keeps turing itself off!
Doesn't matter if I reboot from 'start/turn off' or from a program
installation etc.
Running a ViewSonic E70 attached to a Riva TNT2 M64. The video card is using
the latest drivers, the monitor is running as a plug and play monitor.
Any ideas?

When your monitor shuts down does it say something to the effect of "going
to dpms mode?"
When you restart does your monitor restart also?
My monitor has always shut off when the computer restarts but it does come
back on as the puter boots up.
