I can't seem to insert foreign language symbols using the
ALT key. Can anyone help me? Thank you!

There's more than one way to accomplish this. If you need to do
this fairly often, you might want to try a little freeware
application called Allchars, available at
http://allchars.zwolnet.com

It runs in the background and lets you enter such characters by
pressing the Ctrl key, follwed by a two letter mnemonic. For
example, ñ is ctrl-n-~, ç is ctrl-c-, and ä is ctrl-a-"

Is Num Lock on? (Check the light above the Num keypad). If it isn't
then switch it on by pressing Num Lock - top left key of the numerical
keypad.

I think this only works in MS Word though.
