Windows XP did not recognize my USB iomega cd writer

Help!

Can anybody help me on this problem. I just bought a
compaq desktop and install my usb iomega cd writer on it.
The Windows XP recognized it at first. After that I
installed "easy cd creator" software, then the Window XP
did not recognize my cd writer anymore. It becomes
unknown device. I uninstall the software. It did not
work. I went into system/ device manager/update driver on
the USB unknown device and try to fixed it but it still
did not work. I already spend a week on it. I am out of
idea. Can anybody help me. Please send your reply to my
