Hi there,
I have just joined this newsgroup looking for help with the following
problem.
I have just installed windows XP and also a Sound Blaster PCI 4.1 digital
sound card and it seems to have taken control of the sound so that I can not
hear the tutorial properly and cant use windows media player. It also
distorts CD like Disney interactive. Any ideas without having to get another
sound card or change my operating programme?
many thanks
Deryn

You never specified exactly which had taken control of
your sound, XP or Soundblaster?
Anyhow, this might inspire some help:
Go to Control Panel, click on "Sounds & Audio Devices,"
And under each tab, make sure that the Soundblaster card
is the device controlling everything.

If that doesn't work, reinstall the sound card's drivers.

If that doesn't work, completely remove the sound card
(everything, and I mean everything) from your system, then
go to device manager, select the Soundblaster card and
uninstall it. Then shutdown, (not restart) and physically
take the card out, let it sit out for awhile
(to disipate any electrical charge), then put it back in,
install everything again, and hopefully it will work.

Also, if your motherboard has onboard sound, disable it in
the bios.
