View Full Version : modem detection

Hi all - under W-ME I was able to leave the external modem powered off until
I required it - power it on and instantly detected it was on so the CMO port
became active. However under W2K I was required to either leave the modem
power on while booting or "refresh" the COM to detect the modem. I'm
finding I have to do the same for W-XP : is this true :)

TIA

Hi Tia,

You might want to look into getting a different serial cable... a 'smart
cable'... those pins tell the machine specific things.... and when you turn
off your modem, it might somehow interfere (or more likely) NOT send the
reconnect notice, when you turn it back on. Or it might just be a modem
setting you can change....

Check out this link I found to an article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base...

Good Luck,
