I am wondering, maybe this is not even the right place to
bring it up, but how do you change a url so that it may
not be so long and say to be able to just say "click
here". I run into this alot when trying to send url's to
people and they seem to be really long ones and was just
wondering if there was an easy way of just changing the
url to say click here. Thanks in advance. I am running
windows xp home. Thank you. Allan

Visit http://tinyurl.com

See, that's a short URL, too!

http://tinyurl.com/ is pretty good, they'll basically give you a shorter
URL, and then when the user clicks it automatically forward.

If you mean to do it with HTML, in say an HTML e-mail the code would be:

<a href="PUT YOUR URL HERE>click here</a>.

Small correction:
<a href="PUT YOUR URL HERE">click here</a>.

Why to change links? - long links also work fine. :o)
What's the problem? ;->

What for? - Does your poor mailer can't read correctly long URL's? :->

While it might be nice to do this ... the flip side of this is to fully
expose the total URL to the reader. Don't remove the ability of reader
to see where the link leads.

s long as the URL, even if long, is active and clickable, why not leave
it alone so that the reader can easily inspect it? Make it easy for
them to see to where they are linking.

Unscrupulous people could claim a link goes somewhere other than where
it actually goes. I'm not sure I think it a good practice for people to
start to think long URL's are themselves bad. Will lead to other issues.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Alternatively, you could also visit http://shurl.us , which is even shorter! :-)
