View Full Version : Multiple Users set up after XP repair

After reinstalling XP I find that in addition to my old user name, Michael
Fanning, XP has added a new one, Michael Fanning.MICHAEL FANNING. Most of
the data in the new user is current and most of the data in the old user is
old. However, "My Documents" seems to appear under the old user (the 'My
Documents" folder under the new user contains nothing). Also My Outlook
Express identity is under the old user.

This seems a confused mess. Does anyone know how this happened and what I
can do to straighten it out?

Thanks, Mike Fanning

Hi Michael,

It happened because you reinstalled rather than repaired the existing =
installation. The old account is now useless, as it no longer can sign =
on. Copy any pertinate data from it to the new account and delete it. =
You may want to open Outlook Express, click tools/options/maintenance =
tab/store folder and move your e-mail under your new account before =
doing this.

But "my documents also opens in the old account. Do I move that as well?
It seems strange that both "my documents" and OE open under the old user.
Does that make any sense. Finally, how do I delete the old user?
Thanks for your help, Mike Fanning

Hi Michael,

Yes, you'd move the "My Documents" as well. OE's profiles (identities) =
are unrelated to WinXP's, this is why you still access it there, but you =
need to move the mail store first. The users applet in the Control Panel =
can be used to remove the old account. If it is not listed, you can =
simply delete the old profile folders from Windows Explorer.
