I have a cd-rw drive. It worked great untill I installed
Veritas Record Now. The built-in support for pasting and
burning files then disappeared. The record tab on the
drive's properties page is also gone. I tried the
knowledge base idea of changing the registry key to make
sure its being recognized as a burner, but it already
was. I also tried deleting the LowerFilters key, but
restored it when that didn't solve the problem either. I
had this problem before, but reinstalled windows to solve
it. Is there an easier way? Help please!!!

Unfortunately the XP built in CD writing support and other packages (such as
packet writing software) sometimes don't co-exist well.

If you re-enable the built in stuff (known as IMAPI) then the "record now"
stuff will probably become confused (since it obviously disabled IMAPI), so
you may not want to do this.

Go to "computer management" and look in Services - if the IMAPI service
start type is set to "disabled" change it to manual.

I downloaded a freeware cd writer package - CDBurner XP Pro. This wanted me
to change registry key below. When I did I not only lost xp burner but also
auto play of music cd, so I reset key to default (1). Seems to work ok, just
launch the vendor software before you insert the cd. Key is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Cdrom/Autorun=0
