how do I set my ATA 100 harddisk to run in mode 5? I am
set at multi-word mode 2 now. Western digital 200 Gbyte
on a Gigabyte p875i MoBo. Is this a hardware problem or
is there a setting to be made?

Gene,
Take a look at the software that either comes on the floppy you got with the
disk or is downloadable from www.wd.com. I believe that their hard drive
management software actually allows you to turn DMA on and off via the
software. Also, make sure that your BIOS is set to UDMA for the drive and
that you are using an 80-pin cable. Of course, if you have already done
all of these things then I'm out of ideas.
Good luck,
Mike

What about the INF drivers for Intel chipset. Did you install it? Also,
what happens if you change the Primary IDE Channel Properties/Advance
Settings/Transfer Mode to DMA if available? Does it stick?
