View Full Version : Help with DVD that doesn't work
Mr. Anderson
December 7th 03, 10:08 PM
I have the following problem. I have a DVD drive that
worked before having to reinstall my WinXP Home Edition
OS. After reinstalling I found that the DVD drive didn't
work anymore. The first thing I did was to find and
download ASPI from Adaptec since my friend had the same
problem and we found that that worked. After that it
still didn't work though. I went into event viewer and
noticed that I had a device error stating that the drive
had a bad block and that it was suffering from timeout.
I went to the drives manufacturer and they were no help
with the firmware replacement since, between them and I,
we couldn't figure out why the firmware failed. After
hitting a brick wall there I went to the web, did
research and found a bios that would work with it. I
flashed the drive, unloaded ASPI/then reloaded it,
Unloaded Power DVD/reloaded it, uninstalled the drive
from SafeMode, and did a full cold boot. XP recognized
the drive installed it but I still get the timeout
error. I have moved the drive from master to secondary
on the secondary IDE, set it up as the only drive on said
channel. Moved it to the primary IDE as slave and still
get the same error. The "funny" thing about this is that
everytime the drive trys to "autoplay" while my CD-R/RW
drive is hooked up the CD drive activity light blinks
like it is the drive that is being used.
Please help if you can. Thank you.

You are correct. Items have been known to sell out. It might have been =
a bulk purchase at a price, and when they're gone they're gone. I f ind =
some good deals that way.
