At start-up, the hardware install wizard activates to
install "Multimedia Audio Controller". I'm not sure why
it's not installed; I may have accidentally deleted it
when cleaning up my hard drive. I think this is why none
of my multimedia applications like Windows Media Player
can open audio files. I tried using the wizard, but it
can't locate the file it needs. I tried looking for the
file on the Microsoft website, but I can't find it,
anywhere. Please help. I've done alot of work tonight,
and I don't want to have to resort to the system restore
application. Thanks!

Oh, I am sorry.... I misread your post....

I doubt my suggestion directly applies to your situation, since you think
you nuked the drivers.
Try doing what I said, but with your Windows XP CD in the system, and when
it asks you where to install from, choose the CD. It may take a bit of
effort to point it to the right place, but you'll get it.

Good luck,
