Something else you can try if the above doesn't work is press F8 as the
system boots and choose Safe Mode to boot. From there you may be able to run
Logui and fix your broken UI. Then reboot normally.

You could try hitting Ctl_Alt-Del twice when you think the system is waiting
for you to log on. That should give you the old logon UI that allows you to
type in your user name and password.
